But this was just a quick hack and I had a lot of complaints that the code detected devices wrong. So I decided to remove ANY ATAPI/IDE-code from X-CD-Roast. Parallel-Writers need the parallelport-driver in the kernel. Please see section 2 of the CD-Writing-HOWTO how to configure your kernel on Linux.

I've tried to add it back in via the GUI "Kernal Daemon Configurator", but I didn't see the Samsung CDROM listed, so I'm thinking it's an ATAPI/IDE CDROM drive. Getting the IDE driver to recognize your CD-ROM drive can be tricky, especially if you have more than 2 devices or more than one IDE controller.

You kinda breezed over the CD-ROM issue but I suspect you are trying to configure the CD-ROM as the master device and the Zip drive as the slave. Try it the other way around. P2B-S: CD-ROM not detected
I had a CD-R and a ZIP drive, both atapi ide devices which were connected to my second ide port. It took several pushes of the button and quite a time delay a number of reasons for this including the one you describe above. Save the mobo EIDE controller for UDMA HDs, one per cable, using busmastering EIDE drivers.

Go to Control Panel | SCSI Adapters and on the "Devices" page make sure you see at least one line with IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/Dual-channel PCI IDE Controller If you don't see If you DO see a line like that, use Explorer to navigate to the directory C:\winnt\system32\drivers. Also, the "Tape Drives" section where it had HP Colorado 5GB listed had disappeared in the device summary. What worked for me is REMIDEUP.EXE from Microsoft's web site. •ATAPI tape drive support is included in the IDE driver, which will allow a backup program that supports ATAPI tape to be used.

Under the current SCSIPORT model, it is not possible to use DMA on one device and PIO on another if the devices are on the same channel. Enabling DMA use can be done by adding the following keys under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi: \Parameters\DeviceX\ (where X represents the IDE

As a result, it's not terribly difficult to write a CD-R driver which will work with both SCSI controllers and an ATAPI controller. In fact, Linux now provides a "SCSI emulation" feature which registers the IDE interface as a SCSI controller, and makes any ATAPI devices on the interface available to software as

This means that most modern ATAPI/IDE CD devices should work on systems with the appropriate hardware (eg Falcon or Milan). *NOTE* In order to send the commands across the IDE bus, ExtenDOS Gold uses the SCSIDRV protocol. Therefore an appropriate SCSIDRV driver must be installed for the bus in question. 4.
